The artist's intent comes through clearly in this work with a combination of the nerikomi technique to an amazing degree of fineness and a thinness that makes the objects look almost taut, a level of sensitivity that startles the eyes.
The sharp form of the tea bowl hides a bit of modern ambiance within the traditional shape, and beckons a broader use than just serving green tea … perhaps it could be filled with chocolates now and then.
The gold trim on the tea container adds a pretty touch to the shape, and the blue and white pattern, matching the tea bowl, leaves the viewer with a feeling of good taste and panache.
This work seems to capture the very sole of Japanese traditions, that which is both the beauty of exquisite detail and the comfortable fit in one's hand.
I would like to have seen a little more creativity in the tea scoop.
